Atlanta: Green House
This is EWB-GT’s new project, which started last Spring. We are partnering with Harper-Archer Elementary School, which is an Atlanta Public School in West Atlanta. HAES serves a high poverty population, and is trying to get STEAM certified, which will not only enhance student’s education, but will also provide more resources and opportunities to the school.
EWB-GT will be working with HAES to build a greenhouse and start a STEM education program for students. The greenhouse and STEM education will provide students hands-on learning opportunities as well as providing fresh produce to a community in a food desert. The greenhouse will increase community engagement in the school through students, parents, and other community members. In the fall we will be doing site visits to HAES, kickstarting our STEM Education program, and doing research on greenhouse designs. This project will be very hands-on with the community and will include interactions with students and possible building opportunities later on.
We are looking for passionate and dedicated committee leads and general members who are wanting to make a difference in the local community. We need a variety of people interested in the technical, environmental, sustainability, communication, community, education and fundraising aspects of the project. Any majors are welcome; the only requirement is a willingness to work and contribute to the team!
